On April 13, Consul General Clifford A. Hart, Jr. spoke at the Law School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, advocating use of the legal system as a tool to fight modern day slavery. In his speech, “The Role of Law in Combatting Trafficking in Persons,” the Consul General outlined the issue of modern slavery, current laws available to address the issue, and Hong Kong’s need for a comprehensive anti-trafficking law. More than 40 law students, faculty, legal professionals, and guests attended the talk, which also featured a Q&A session with the Consul General. The discussion and questions highlighted the need to clearly define the issue of human trafficking, as well as how the problem could be combated both in Hong Kong and the United States.
