Consul General Kurt W. Tong spoke at the opening of “Rising Above: The Kinsey African American Art and History Collection” at the University of Hong Kong Museum and Art Gallery on December 8, 2016. The exhibit, which runs until February 26, 2017, includes more than 120 items ranging from paintings and sculptures to rare first editions and manuscripts, letters and official records that testify to the courage and hope of African Americans rising above the challenges they faced – and still face – to make their voices heard. This is the first international exhibition of the Kinsey Collection, which has been seen by over 6 million people in 24 cities around the United States. The University of Hong Kong Museum and Faculty of Arts organized the Hong Kong exhibition in collaboration with KBK Enterprises, Inc. and the Bernard and Shirley Kinsey Foundation for Arts & Education.
