The USS Hopper, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, visited Hong Kong from February 5-8, 2017 for a routine port visit.
While in Hong Kong, USS Hopper sailors assisted a local community organization dedicated to helping the elderly, and participated in activities with local secondary school students. The students learned about life aboard a U.S. Navy ship and taught the sailors traditional Chinese calligraphy. Together, the students and sailors made a Chinese New Year dessert and played basketball.
These activities, which are routine during U.S. ship port calls, strengthen the bonds of friendship and understanding between the American people and the people of Hong Kong.
