U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is offering interviews in Hong Kong on January 15-16, 2018 for U.S. Citizens and other eligible individuals, including lawful permanent residents, who wish to apply for the Global Entry program. Interviews will be conducted at the American Chamber of Commerce, 1904 Bank of America Tower, 19/F, 12 Harcourt Road, Hong Kong between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. U.S. Citizens with legitimate regional business travel may also apply at the same time for an APEC Business Travel Card.
The Global Entry program allows U.S. citizens and other members of the program to use Global Entry kiosks to expedite their entry into the United States. Upon arrival, Global Entry members present theirmachine-readable passport or machine-readable lawful permanent resident card, place their fingertips on the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make an electronic customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to the baggage claim and exit. The U.S. APEC Business Travel Card Program facilitates travel for U.S. citizens engaged in verified business in the APEC region.
Members of the Global Entry program are eligible for the TSA PreCheck expedited screening program at U.S. airports. U.S. citizen members of Global Entry are also eligible for access to expedited entry benefits in countries with which CBP has International Arrangements.
Interested? Here’s what you need to do:
Go to How to Apply on CBP’s Trusted Traveler Program/Global Entry website, and follow these steps:
- Create a Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) account. Each applicant, regardless of age, must have their own TTP account.
You will first be directed to Login.gov, a U.S. government platform allowing the public to securely access personal information, to create an account if you do not have one. After creating your Login.gov account, or signing on to your existing Login.gov, you will return to the Trusted Traveler Program website to apply for Global Entry.
- Log in to your TTP account and complete the application. A $100 non-refundable fee is required with each completed application. A separate application is required for each family member.
You may register multiple passports on one Global Entry application at no extra charge. Passports and other travel documents such as a lawful permanent resident card that are included on your application may be updated later online. However, if you wish to add one later, you will have to do so in person at an Enrollment Center. For example, when you renew a passport, you can update the passport information online at no charge. If you apply with just one passport, and later want add a second one, you will have to do it in person (no fee for this).
For those interested in the U.S. APEC Business Travel Card, tick the APEC Business Travel Card box as well as the Global Entry box in the Program Selection section of the application. An additional non-refundable fee is required for the U.S. APEC Business Travel Card.
- After accepting your completed application and fee, CBP will review your application. If your application is conditionally approved, your GOES account will instruct you to schedule an interview. You will receive an email notice to check your account status when CBP’s review of your application is complete.
Select “Hong Kong” as the location for your interview. This option is only available for the Special Event on January 15-16, 2018.
For families, each applicant must be scheduled for a separate interview, regardless of age.
- You will need to bring your valid passport(s) and one other form of identification, such as a driver’s license or ID card to the interview. If you are a lawful permanent resident of the United States, you must present your machine-readable permanent resident card.
To check whether other documents are required, login to the TTP website, go to your Dashboard, and select the “Interview Confirmation” link. This link is only available when your application is in “Interview Scheduled” status.
If you plan to take advantage of this opportunity, please complete your application promptly, but not later than January 4, 2018. Appointment spaces are limited, and will be available on a “first come, first served” basis. CBP must conditionally approve your application before you may schedule an interview.
