There have been a series of protests near the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong against proposed U.S. legislation. These protests may continue throughout the week. The protests have been peaceful in nature and routine consulate business, including appointments for American Citizen Services and visas, are unaffected.
Citizens are advised to avoid the immediate area where the protests are occurring while entering or exiting the consulate if coming for appointments. As noted in the Hong Kong Travel Alert, protests are unpredictable and citizens are advised to avoid them if possible and exercise caution while in their vicinity.
